Last Week of 2007
So, in 2008 I have exactly 52 weeks to change the world - 52 simple weeks. Sure, I imagine it'd be easy enough to put it off until I had the time, money and energy, but not too much manages to get done with that attitude.
So, I am purposing to do something weekly (if only to add to ongoing projects we are currently doing) to change the world - this also includes recruiting the people around me and my children who are pretty much always up for a challenge and helping others.
My desire is that you would jump on the train.
Why?
Because changing the world simply ROCKS the universe. Sometimes it's like the part of the move "Pay it Forward" where Jerry just doesn't seem to overcome his drug addiction, but nonetheless he does pay it forward. We make ripple affect changes that we can't see the end.
Sometimes we see a tangible difference and sometimes it's not well received at all (sometimes people will even throw gifts out!), but it is a seed and an opportunity to change something for the better.
I think if you are willing to complain about how the world is - then you should be willing to do something about it.
I've committed to sharing my progress and hopefully, involving you too! Who knows - it may just change YOUR world!
Week 52 of 2007
This week is obviously the most awesome time to buy anything Christmas - I snagged thirty fake Christmas Trees for only 50 cents (total $15.00!) - I snagged some decorations too, but will wait until they are marked 75% off as they are more expensive.
These items will be stored away with my Christmas items until this coming November. At which point I will pull them out, hot glue decorations on (they will most likely fall over at least once!) and deliver them to two local nursing homes - 15 trees each.
Not much of an expedenture, but I won't have the money to do this THEN, and they will cost twice as much so I marked that down for next year's project. We did quilts for Thanksgiving in 2007.
Valentines Day
This is just around the corner, so to speak - at least if you are going to "gift" more then twenty people or so. This is a GREAT time to grab anything red - like lunch bags, gift bags, etc.
It's also a good time to get cookie decorations if you are inclined to baking (though you can't really give baked goods to total strangers - it kind of freaks them out and what not).
Start contacting local nursing homes, churches and homeless shelters for their head count (even a ball park figure will do - but throw in extras "in case" - wouldn't want to leave anyone out.
As for me - I feel like passing on V's Day at this point - I'm still exhausted from Christmas, but time will tell - I may feel more "up to it" later in January.
My 2008 Calender
I'll be involving my kids in world changing activities by using two wall calendars (which by the way I happened to get for Christmas) - one will be for obligations, bills, appontments, etc. The other calender will include special activities for the kids to do that day - like "Give someone you don't know a sincere compliment day" and things of that nature. Should be interesting.
